Robert Loomes, new In-house movement will be unveiled at Salon QP

Sep 27, 2016,21:02 PM

Robert Loomes is an English watchmaker who has a small company making watches with vintage English movements he and his team restore, retune and decorate.

You can see more in a Hodinkee article about him and his perspective on English watchmaking:

He's been working toward making an in-house movement in the style of the vintage English movements he's been using.

At Salon QP, his in-house watch, signed Loomes rather than Robert Loomes, will be unveiled in a limited edition of 12 white gold and 12 yellow gold watches.

I'm told the look will be similar to his Robin watch:

I like the dial, case, shape of the lugs but I am not really convinced by the movement.

It seems a little bit too small for the case which is strange as it is in-house. But may be it is a committed position. And the guilloché elements are too dated IMHO. Best wishes Alkiro

yes the movements are vintage Smiths based caliber

Smiths was one of the last survivors of the British watch industry, unfortunately not operational any more. They made really great wristwatches into the 1970s, if I'm not mistaken, and they're a vintage brand that is very under appreciated today. Worth lo...

Many thanks for the info ;-)

Very well finished, but i'd rather a complication than the best anglage ever

Very nice work - their reworking of vintage Smiths caliber looks great!

I'm particularly fond of their work, especially reworking the vintage Smiths UK made movements. I'm very interested in this type of work Really fun to see their development! I like the clean dials and size of the finished watch. Would love to see in the s...

I'll have to wait and see the final movement.

Not overly impressed with the aesthetics of the movement in the Robin watch. Overall it looks small and plain, with a mostly utilitarian bridge layout. The engraving doesn't change my overall impression of that movement. Cheers, John

Welcome to English watchmaking! [nt]
