[SIHH 2017] Kari Voutilainen

What do we see on Kari's wrist?

Yes, that is the new Vingt-8 ISO.  You do, however, need to be wide awake to read the time.  At the full hour the hour and minute hands are superimposed and the angle between the hands is the same at any hour.  Is it a totally useless complication? Yes, but I like it!

Here it is shortly before noon.

What time is it now ?

More of those wonderful Voutilainen guilloché dials.

Gaaach! There goes my night. Lying awake thinking about these. Especially that third one with the brown dial - even if it looks like the case is a little bit larger (?). Actually, that third one - yep, case way too big. Makes it really unbalanced. Just no...

Thought I had ordered white hands....oh well [nt]

It's like learning how to ride a bike differently. But those dials...

Lucky you are with yours my friend

I think a "complication" should tell you something extra (sunrise, moonphase, month, equation of time) rather than make it extra hard to tell time

thus this complication isn't really of interest to me. It's akin to watch displays like this which require a lot more thinking, especially for people who change watches often. Sorry, Kari. I still like the dials and the workmanship. Cazalea ...

Only the first two pics are of the Vingt-8 ISO - here with an opulent dial.

I have ordered and AM buying the white-dial version for a personal - being tired of the word "subjective" - reason in that I always see a watch primarily as an instrument for timekeeping, not for fashion or as an idea of beauty, art, investment ... The in...

just to add ...

I don't think of it at all as a totally useless complication - - - for the above-named reasons. Thanks very much for the presentations!

Another example

Just received my ISO - pic attached. Who cares if the complication is useful? It's enjoyable! It makes you pause and connect with the watch. I actually think lining up both hands on the hour, every hour, is intuitive as well. I hope you enjoy yours as muc...

Wow thats a beauty.

I haven\'t seen a combo like this before and surprised why not - just top notch. Congratulations and hope you enjoy it!

That looks stunning.

What an amazing piece ! You must be one of the first ones to get an ISO I assume... Please share wiyh us your experience with this special piece in a while so as to know how you get used to reading time with it : I suppose you will need some time at the b...

Talking about the ISO, I beieve Kari knows very well this "complication" is not going to sell like hot cakes

 By: Mike H : February 27th, 2017-13:14
It is I am sure more a kind of exercise ; I would not be surprised if it would be originally a special order from a special client who would not have demanded exclusivity and Kari now can show this as an example of his skills and originality : simply to s...

Its really more of a design

than a complication. I agree as stated above a complication should add function beyond telling you the time which is what a simple watch does.

Many thanks Don!

At the risk of repeating myself, why do watches only need to be practical? It is often said that what differentiated the horological high time that we live in from the period before it is precisely the shifted focus from mostly functional watches towards ...
