I Need A Very Honest Opinion...
Jan 16, 2017,12:14 PM
.... Here's a watch that was created by Master Watchmaker, Martin Braun, over ten years ago. It is called The Heliozentric.
It was the first and only watch to depict the Earth's oval-shaped orbit around the sun.
Here is the latest offering from Vacheron Constantine - The VC Metiers d' Art Copernicus Celestial:
Um, is it just me or should someone over at VC cut Mr. Braun a nice check for designing this watch for them?!? Look at how the Earth tracks the Sun via an oval orbit. Note how the Constellations are depicted. Vacheron Constantine even went so far as to include the Astrological Signs on the bezel, something Martin Braun did between 5:00 and 6:00.
At the end of the day, it really should not matter who the conceptual watchmaker was (or is), and frankly, VC ought to be ashamed of themselves for stealing. I, for one, will never look at this legendary manufacturer in the same way ever again. Borrowing is one thing. Giving someone credit for their ideas is quite another. But stealing is something altogether different and must not be tolerated in any way, shape or form. Let's hope the muckity mucks over at Vacheron do the right thing by giving credit (and payment) where it is do. To behave with such impunity is a disservice to all members of the industry, manufacturers and consumers alike.

... I would have no problem at all. In fact, all that is truly required is to give credit when credit is due. These days, the bigger companies - be it Swatch to Richemont or Apple to Google - behave in a way to suggest it is better to ask for forgiveness ...

Your love for MB is well known. I am a HUGE fan of the master myself. I hope Martin does get some credit but I suspect not. I think VC will claim "there is nothing new in horology", and their design is based on the orrery (or something). But this does hig...

Based on my business experience in intellectual property rights (I'm not an attorney) when viewed in its entirety, it's a different kind of watch in many respects .... V-C quotes Copernicus as their inspiration. "Copernicus was a mathematician and philoso...

I would not compare Braun to VC... the VC is a world apart, especially design... that Braun's date at 12 is ... unfortunate... Braun's design is not at VC's level... I have seen the Braun many times and have (sorry) never really looked at it a second time...
