Koenigsegg, Mille, Pagani, Busser - The Disruptors

Disruptors, like innovators, by definition, are people who introduce new methods, ideas and products. In real life, they can be regarded as leaders, pioneers and visionaries. They are individuals capable of shaking things up and making others dream again. In the past, we had Albert Einstein, Leonardo da Vinci and Galileo Galilei. Fast forward to the present day, we have names like Christian von Koenigsegg, Horacio Pagani, Richard Mille and Maximilian Busser. These disruptors have impacted their respective industries to the point where we mere mortals believe that something better is possible. Koenigsegg Christian von Koenigsegg has always been into machinery and entrepreneurship, even from a young age. He tuned motorcycles in his teenage years. Then he went on to start up an import-export business, which he later sold. He even invented a solution of joining planks together without the use of adhesives or nails. That did not catch on until years later, blooming into a multi-billion dollar industry. So a missed opportunity there.

However at 22, when Christian had the opportunity to go against the big names of the automotive industry and create his perfect sports car, he took it and has not looked back since. 22 years later, Koenigsegg is now synonymous to hypercars and technical innovations. He develops each model variant to push beyond the boundaries known in the industry. And it is needless to say that his cars are loaded with patented technological solutions and are crazily magnificent. Pagani Dubbed the Leonardo da Vinci of our time, Horacio Pagani wanted to create the most beautiful car in the world. And the atelier of Pagani in Modena, Italy is a place where art meets science. Being an advocate in the art of manual intellectualism from the mind to the hands, Horacio applied this approach to his design. And the results speak for themselves.

Horacio's passion for cars started when he was a boy. He enjoys engineering and building things with his hands. He built a motorcycle from scraps. he built a Formula 2 car from the ground up, with only the F2 technical rulebook as a reference. With the recommendation of Juan Manuel Fangio, he worked on prototyping and composites for Lamborghini. Eventually he started his own design company, Modena Design and Pagani Automobili was born. Horacio said "A Pagani should invoke emotions just by looking at it. And hopefully, children will be inspired to do better. Besides, that is the only way to make people spend huge amounts of money on a car." With cars that are essentially moving works of art, it would be tough to say no. Richard Mille Most people would not know Richard Mille unless they know their watches. Even then, they probably have no idea who is the man behind this hyper-brand because Richard lets his timepieces do the talking.

Richard Mille timepieces are marketed as "Racing Machines On The Wrist". Just with that slogan, you know an RM will be something special. And its six-figure price tag almost guarantees that. The deal is sealed the moment you lay your eyes on one. Richard Mille basically rewrites the art of watchmaking with the introduction of exotic materials. Forget platinum, titanium and white gold. His inability to compromise resulted in space-age materials such aluminum-lithium, orthorhombic titanium aluminide and carbon fiber to be used in the process. Coupled with insane complications and impeccable finishing, you got yourself "The Billionaire's Masonic Handshake". Maximilian Busser On to Mister MB&F. After spending 14 years in the watch industry, it dawned on Maximilian that he derived the greatest satisfaction and pleasure from developing unique concept-style watches. So he decided to stop making watches for others and instead start making watches for himself. Not as a money-making business but food for the soul.

For starters, MB&F is the acronym for "Maximilian Busser and Friends". And the idea Maximilian has in mind is simple: To give his all to create what he wants with the help of artisans with the same vision and celebrate the works of each and every person who has been a part of the process with due recognition. An MB&F machine is created as a machine that tells time rather than a machine to tell time. And this is evident with the outrageous and bold designs. All In All Through the research on these 4 remarkable individuals, it is obvious to see a common trait which they share. A part of them goes into the very products they create, a piece of their life, their story, their abnegation and their soul. They are not in it to make money as much as they are trying to sustain the brand for as long as they can so that they can continue doing what they love. Passion is what drives them. Something that is much needed in this day and age.

Disruptors? No they are not (at least not to me).

Although they make very beautiful and stunning products I would not call them disruptive (at all). Their impact is (only) felt in a niche part of their niche markets. Electronics Apple is (was) disruptive (iPhone, iTunes) Cars Telsa is disruptive (EV) Wat...

Disruptors? Yes!

I would call them disruptors. Tesla is still only a Niche market. Apple started as a niche market. The rate of adoption is different from industry to industry. Electronics happens to be an industry that allows new technology to be developed at lower costs...
