When a watch is just so you: Girard-Perregaux Vintage 45, 2593

Mar 23, 2017,10:15 AM

Friends,

I know I’m a bit crazy. I own the current collection Vintage 45 time-only with the XXL case, and I also have the marvelous Chronograph 2599 and also the Large Date / Moonphase 2580, so why the hell do I need another Vintage 45???

In fact, I don’t need it, but I’m hyper-happy I got it .

Here we have the re-edition of the original Vintage 45 re-edition, Ref 2593. When GP first released in 1995 the Vintage 45, Ref 2595 in quite limited production with manual wind movement, it immediately was recognized as a great design and a follow-up version was brought to market with in-house automatic movement, Ref 2594. This one stayed in production for a few years and was particularly successful in Japan. While GP launched then the Chronograph (2599), in the year 2000, they decided to bring back the original time-only, no date version with automatic movement, now Ref 2593. This was a big seller and is still today the foundation of the ongoing success of the Vintage 45 line. There are almost no differences between Ref 2594 and 2593. I guess only Ref 2594 had more bi-colour versions than 2593.

So coming back to Ref 2593 which I recently found and let me explain a few things about the relationship of that watch with me. In fact, I did previously own a 2593 with black dial but let that one go some time ago.

I think that the new 2593 is a very close match to my personal character and that makes this watch so special to me. It’s like me!

How?

Understatement: not a watch that is shouting out loud, neither am I, more introvert than extrovert but then it’s well-crafted, and of some value.

Very clean design, time-only, so quintessentially functional.

Kind of “smallish” and people who know me, know what I mean.

Special: special? Well, Ref 2593 has been produced by the thousands, so not a GP that is very rare, however, not that many were made in solid white gold, like my new 2593. In fact, the serial number is a single digit. And then the white gold here works perfectly. A warmer hue than steel, matching very well with the ivory dial and an added heft on this smallish watch is also very welcome.

So overall, the watch seems to perfectly fit my personality and also perfectly fits my wrist and taste, for me a very special GP in my collection.

And you are a winner for nailing it. Plus, I'm sure you're a winner anyway. But this is a win.

Fabulous [nt]

I see a guilty verdict for you and the sentence will be to wear your GP for 12 months!

I have a strange feeling that the MB
