GP Deep Diver
Jan 07, 2018,13:15 PM
Dear Friends,
a few days ago I got a Deep Diver which belonged to a relative who passed away some years ago. The watch was not used for about the last 25 years but immediately began to run when moving. While searching for some information about this watch I found your forum with several other 9108 but not with a dial coloured like mine. Therefore you propably will like to see a picture of my watch. The scratches on the glass are not as severe as on the foto when the sun is not shining directly on it.
The next days I will give it to my watchmaker for some cleaning and service and propably changing the glass if
possible...
Sorry for my writing but english is not my native language ...
Best wishes,
frame65

Warm welcome to our GP forum! What a nice Deep Diver you have there! To find new crystal for this watch is often not that easy. IWC had a 812 crystal which match, but need to be with the special edge, not the straight edge one. Would you please check the ...

frame65, Welcome to PuristSPro! You are on a journey to honour your cousin and the watch. We wish you well. Even after restoration, I'm sure you will not be deep diving the watch. I wonder how deep the original specification was? Also, what the extra dial...

Hello MTF, thank you for your warm welcome. I am not sure, but I think the numbers on the dial have something to do with the minutes of decompression time. I think I have read it (here...?) somewhere... The depth on the bottom is 20ATM though it is meanwh...

Please make sure they are able to handle vintage watches! Many modern watchmakers do not know how to handle the vintage side... Over polish case and repaint of dial as results... Personally, I would not touch the case and dial. But of course, that is my p...
Of course...

... they should neither touch case nor dial. The watch must keep it's appearance as a used watch from the seventies... I think the watchmaker knows what to do. He has his workshop in Hamburg for over 50 years and is well known in the scene. There had been...
A little update

a little update: unfortunately the watchmaker in Hamburg also did not succeed in getting a new crystal. So I decided for now to keep and wear the watch like it is. Beside this I asked my watch dealer here in Lübeck if he probably will get a crystal for a ...
