Alkiro's carnivore test pt. 3 - Spanish
May 26, 2017,03:02 AM
Following on from the first two installments of the Alkiro initiated carnivore testing, here part three (the first two here: www.watchprosite.com
here: www.watchprosite.com
scientific comparability ).
This time the cuisine has been Spanish. A cuisine not known to be particularly vegetarian at the best of times - at least not wholly.
So diving right in, with a fully vegetarian starter (just to show one can), some olive oil with bread. Perhaps not unique to the Spanish cuisine but fairly common irrespective. And a great use of both bread and oil
The asparagus soup that followed was not strictly vegan with the quail's egg but meat free at any rate. And pretty delicious - never had it in this cobination before but it works very well, I have to say.
No surprises then that the soup was my wife's starter, while a plate of jamon iberico was mine (below). No vegetables have been harmed in the making of this one
Very much enjoy the Spanish variety of dried hams - they tend to be a bit less dry than the varieties further East but very tasty. Black trotters and acorns is the way to go
Some croquettas for inbetween. Again with meat but not fully meaty. Perhaps not the highlight of the meal but typical at least.
Now for another fully vegan dish - pimientos de padron. A vegetarian dish I can get fully behind
Nothing more than the peppers and some seasalt and it's pure bliss
Artichoke risotto for my wife. Did not look meaty enough for me, so I gave it a pass. Call me old fashioned but I do not like my food to have 'choke' in its name
And finally, to my main - a faux fillet of pork, with potatoes and purple potato chips. Simply divine. Or as the saying in my part of the world goes, until I've tried to eat a lion, the pig will remain the undisputed ruler of the animal kingdom for me
Unfortunately no Spanish horological companion with me - until I manage to source a Pita from Barcelona at some point, there will sadly be none. But the Grand Seiko SBGX097 at least blended in with the pimientos, even before the green toad strap arrived
So I guess this meal did not further my defence in terms of not being carnivorously inclined all that much. I guess I need to further my experimentation in that direction...
Bon appetit!
