Chopard and the F1 Grand Prix in Monaco

May 28, 2017,05:32 AM

In honour of the 75th F1 Grand Prix de Monaco, Molly the Mole dug out my Chopard Mille Miglia Grand Prix de Monaco Historique 2014 Edition.

The Monaco Grand Prix is the oldest venue still running since 1929.
It is also unique for three reasons. The organisers in a city with the highest concentration of wealth, celebrity and super yachts actually get the race for free; they pay nothing to the F1 coffers. If they were treated normally, that would be $50 Million.

The second regulations 'let off' is that it does not adhere to the minimum 305km race distance in F1 track regulations.
Finally, being Monaco, they chose to have Free Practice 1 & 2 on Thursday and a Rest Day on Friday with Free Practice 3 & Qualifying on Saturday. They do this because the race is always run on the May Long Weekend with Friday as the Bank Holiday. The population rises from 40,000 to 200,000 and roads kept open on the Friday to allow traffic around the city.

Isn't she pretty? And the watch is also. wink
The black tachymeter bezel and minute rail track sandwich the pulse-raising yellow rehaut ring with its quarter seconds markers.
Yellow and Black is always evocative of excitement, danger and speed...like buzzing hornets!

Chopard is not directly represented at the regular F1 Grand Prix but is a major sponsor and timekeeping partner to the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique, where veterans (car or human) of F1 compete every two years.

Are you watching F1 now? Live from Monaco 28th May 2017: 14:00 - 15:50 CEST.

MTF

I watched for a while, loved the Yachts parked along part of the race route. Would prefer to attend in person, Best Regards Edward

The really big yachts couldn't moor trackside

Edward, The super yachts are too big to moor in the inner harbour. Despite the difficulties of Monaco logistics, if you are well placed on the socio-economic scale, the Monaco Grand Prix is a grand place to be. Luxe NATO style strap on Chopard Mille Migli...

Beautiful piece, very nice and broad offering on Chopard's E-shop.....

Need to look intuit at some point Have watched the race this year and was disappointed again. There is practically no action, the only excitement - and I use the term loosely - being provided by how Ferrari would get Vettel past Kimi. Now the historic car...
