Happy Colourful Nautical Adventure

Happy Ocean 278587-3002 and 278587-3001

This year, Chopard took me by surprise with a couple of mechanical Happy Ocean 'dive-style' watches in the Happy Sport collection.
I was not surprised that Chopard made mechanical diving watches again because they had done so previously in the L.U.C Collection with the L.U.C Pro One.

The Happy Ocean collection is not fully certified as dive watches despite the steel versions rated at 300m water resistance. The gold versions with bezel gem-setting are only rated to 100m.

It was the timing and NATO straps that were surprising.

I knew they were developing new diving watches because I was asked two years ago if there should L.U.C diver's watches again since the cessation of production of the L.U.C Pro One.

Since the launch of Happy Sport in 1993, it has been an outstanding success spawning other sporty lines like Happy Beach and Happy Fish.

Some of their creations have been delightfully offbeat as becoming a fun watch.

2017 HAPPY OCEAN

Happy Ocean 278587-3001

For 2017, Chopard is plunging itself into the iconic collection with the new Happy Ocean. Happy Ocean is combines both sporty and elegant qualities to be the ideal watch for the Chopard lifestyle: exploring the ocean floor, relaxing on a yacht or strolling on the sand. Proof that it is as technical as it is fun, the water-resistance rating is 300 metres and it is driven by a self-winding in-house Chopard movement.

Happy Sport Collection has delighted fans of chic, sporty watches for nearly 24 years. The first of its kind was avant garde by being the first Chopard ladies watch combining the hedonism of diamonds with the utility of steel. Without any setting, diamonds frolic between two sapphire crystals, illuminating the entire dial.

Happy Ocean 278587-3002

Happy Ocean focuses on a nautical adventure. The large 40 mm steel case features a unidirectional rotating bezel with two-tone blue-turquoise or blue-raspberry colour schemes is inspired by azure blue shades and brightly coloured corals, while featuring a wave-shaped design for easier handling under water.

The screw-down crown is marked with a 'C' logo and the case-back is engraved with a wave motif. The intense blue dial evokes the ocean depths and is enhanced with a white minutes hand edged with blue or raspberry luminous paint that glows at night or in dark waters.

The hour-markers and hour hand is also glows in a blue hue while all other indications required for diving are in green.

Five moving diamonds feature like oxygen bubbles or tiny sparkling fish.

They swim around this beautiful aquarium by the magic of Chopard's patented dancing diamonds technology...floating weightless in their inner ocean.

Chopard 01.01-C

The self-winding Chopard movement (01.01-C) is entirely developed and produced by Chopard in Fleurier.
Finally, for the first time on a Chopard’s ladies’ watches, a NATO strap is supplied – a sporty, light, fun material suited to all weather conditions and adventures.

Just in time for the Summer, Happy Ocean invites you to head for the open waters or for the more laid back, it is content to inspire daydreams of a sunny, warm day on the beach or a moonlight skinny dip in the shimmering bioluminescent sea. As Chopard calls it: "A porthole opening onto an endless world of seaside pleasures..."

Conclusion:
At 40 mm diameter and with very discreet diamonds, I can see a few of these mechanical watches even on male wrists.
I know what you did this Summer.....

Those are very nice! How cool that they fitted them with Cal. 1.01C! I cannot but sense something really nice for men´s as well! Eagerly waiting for Baselworld and learning more about Chopard´s novelties. Thank you for sharing these releases with us, and ...

They are good looking watches

If Chopard does not make divers' watches without the tiny diamonds, maybe we could get them removed? We could add diamonds to the current Mrs MTF's Happy Sport so it could be done in reverse.... Regards, MTF

Very interesting...

Were it not for the diamonds I may have been seriously tempted myself Looking forward to seeing what else comes out in Basel - maybe a LUC Pro Two is in the cards, too

Men have been known to wear some Happy Sport watches

I found the original dancing diamonds very discrete. But the current Mrs MTF added a black diamonds paw. Regards, MTF Chopard Happy Sport Ceramic Case Customised Black Diamonds Paw ...

Yes - a "ladies" watch that is big enough for the job

With the 40mm diameter and meeting the requirements of a diving watch, this could even be Unisex. Regards, MTF

My Wife will love this new Happy Ocean!

What the two green glow indicators are for

 By: MTF : March 19th, 2017-15:32
Most of the indices glow blue for time indication. The two green glow markers are for diving: unidirectional bezel zero point and countdown minutes. Regards, MTF

Not just PR Photoshop as my live photos look similar

The glowing fish is superb and when in daylight is not noticeable. It looks just like an ordinary mother-of-pearl dial. Regards, MTF

Okay, I'll admit it.

As successful as Chopard has been with Happy Diamonds watches, they have never been my favorites. These, however, I like a lot! I am going to let Mrs. CaliforniaJed weigh in and I will report back with her thoughts.
