Top speed life expectancy?

 By: Alkiro1 : November 20th, 2017-07:54
Few minutes for both πŸ˜‰ Best wishes Alkiro

Good one! [nt]

 By: Arie - Mr Orange : November 20th, 2017-08:05

No kidding, my main concern is to know if Tesla will still exist after 2020. This company burns cash as quickly as its cars which is an issue for a potential buyer in my opinion

 By: Alkiro1 : November 20th, 2017-08:18
If I can make a comparison, I have the same feeling with HYT. They’re both interesting from a technical point of view and aesthetically speaking but what about their service if they go bankrupt πŸ€” Their initial cost is not negligible and they could potenti...

My concern as well if i knew they would still exist i would but out the 50.000 dollar up front in a heartbeat for this car πŸ˜‚

 By: FRAMII : November 20th, 2017-11:11
But the same can be said with other car manufacturers as they are to slow with technology. Tesla should have been part of Diamler group / Mercedes (they used to own a large share of the company). I see that a earlier top leader of GM today say they will g...

With less problems πŸ˜ˆπŸ˜‰

 By: Alkiro1 : November 20th, 2017-11:54
Best wishes Alkiro

The man puts rockets into space!

 By: Arie - Mr Orange : November 20th, 2017-14:20
Have a little faith.

Yep! And he wants to put men inside too

 By: Alkiro1 : November 20th, 2017-14:51
The boundary between a genius and a madman is very meagre. Future will tell us in which part he belongs. Best wishes Alkiro

Perhaps madman with a run of luck that lasts his life 😜

I do enjoy some daring and panache. Someone has to right?

analogous to multi-function G Shock vs handcrafted RWS?

 By: sake : November 20th, 2017-07:59
no disrespect to G Shock or Tesla intended.

ICE cars are done.

 By: Arie - Mr Orange : November 20th, 2017-08:06
Simply a matter of time.

Interesting that you have this view. Shows what a talented grifter Musk is.

By: Velociphile - No longer in the building : November 20th, 2017-12:47
However, as Feynman said, "Nature cannot be fooled." The reality is that batteries will always suffer from having to carry their oxidant around with them. ICEs don't. Foolish 'winner picking' subsidies and tax breaks and fiscal incentives cannot change th...

Agree. [nt]

 By: psychotic : November 20th, 2017-21:26

One is real, the other in Elon Musk's head

 By: Mr Glass : November 20th, 2017-08:18
Not saying it may not be great when it is released, but Tesla sometimes promises more than it delivers.

One you can buy today, the other one not....

 By: dedestexhes : November 20th, 2017-08:21
just kidding, amazing specs. However, still waiting for a $20k electrical car being able to do 1000km+ without these ridiculous specs. Still not available from any vendor by a mile! br, Dirk

Range anxiety

 By: Arie - Mr Orange : November 20th, 2017-09:06
Is what they call that. When I got my Model S i suffered from that too. But after 4 years no more. The Tesla Supercharger network (25 min recharge) is already sufficient for most and it will keep growing. Other parties are making charging station networks...

agreed

 By: dedestexhes : November 20th, 2017-09:57
having lived in The Netherlands for quite some years. But infrastructure is not equal across Europe. Now living in Switzerland and traveling quite often to Italy, situation there is different. Imagine being at lake Como and charger is just 3 miles away, b...

But i thought that Switzerland is not that bad at other regions...

 By: kolosstt : November 20th, 2017-10:40
Hope you can still have a power plug at home. Would do it for me for most of the time...

well

 By: dedestexhes : November 20th, 2017-10:48
yes and no. I'm now driving an Aston and a BMW M series (not at the same time ) I would be driving an electric car in a jiffy, makes absolutely sense. However, if you rent an apartment in the middle of the center of town, you will have a shared garage wit...

Plugs for anyone!

 By: kolosstt : November 20th, 2017-10:55
I recently moved housed (still renting). Slightly surprised, more and more owners would allow for installation of individual plugs even in shared garages. Who knows, maybe i am driving electric soon. Electric or combustion: Lets keep the meeting in mind. ...

For everyday use, I’m sure there’s no issue with a Tesla if you live in a big city (so many Tesla cabs here in Geneva). I’m much more worried about a long trip ( 700km) with such a car.

 By: Alkiro1 : November 20th, 2017-11:35
You have to schedule your car trip if you don’t won’t to experience bad moments with your family for instance. Best wishes Alkiro

Yes

 By: Arie - Mr Orange : November 20th, 2017-11:40
Or rent a car Or take the wife’s car πŸ˜‰

Agree, 80% of my car trips takes 15-20 minutes

 By: FRAMII : November 20th, 2017-11:43
And we have a diesel for long trips πŸ˜›

Big +1 [nt]

Those acceleration figures are not the whole truth

By: COUNT DE MONET : November 20th, 2017-08:41
The standard Tesla will keep that acceleration up to 120 km/h and after that slow down immensly. This Tesla Roadster will also slow down beyond 160 km per hour or will not have the same elasticity of the Chiron on the top end, from let us say 200 km per h...

+1 [nt]

 By: redcorals : November 20th, 2017-09:13

After 4 years of driving one on a daily basis I can assure you that it out drives ICE cars comfort/speed wise (normal use).

 By: Arie - Mr Orange : November 20th, 2017-09:14
Just to be clear: I sadly do not own stocks (no more). Build quality inside (and some components) compared with Audi / Mercedes: not there yet. But the chassis is super strong and for a car that weight it drives really good. Also in corners. It’s also ver...

The Dutch are, once more, more progressive

By: COUNT DE MONET : November 20th, 2017-10:08
I like driving in Netherland and seeing all the Tesla there on the roads. I am sure it is a good car but not as good as marketing is claiming.

Tons of Teslas here

 By: reintitan : November 20th, 2017-14:19
but then again I live 10 mins from the Tesla Factory HQ in Fremont, California ;-) It was formerly the NUMMI (New United Motors Corporation) factory, a joint venture of Toyota and GM building Toyota Corollas/Geo Prizms before GM went bankrupt.

They all lie indeed

 By: Arie - Mr Orange : November 20th, 2017-11:41
But hey, what’s new?

Strange...

 By: kolosstt : November 20th, 2017-10:44
...when i had little fun on German highway from Stuttgart towards South, another Porsche 911 Turbo and myself in 300HP, the Tesla S that was chasing us, never seemed to be somwthing else but bored. Ok, Chiron obviously is another world but for normal huma...

That might have been the battery protection system that cuts in after driving hard too long....

By: Velociphile - No longer in the building : November 20th, 2017-12:54
I'm not sure a Tesla has even managed 1 lap of the Nurburgring yet without that intervention. Maybe I am not up to date. Anyone know better?

I get what you mean, but why on earth would that be important?

 By: Arie - Mr Orange : November 20th, 2017-14:19
When will you ever want to do a hot lap in a heavy car like a Model S on a racetrack? It's a family GT. Not a racer.

But it's so nice to know you can if you want to ;)

 By: emcquillan : November 20th, 2017-20:32
Like a chronograph accurate to 1/1000th second.

I've seen the same kind of powertrain-preservation programming on ICE cars

 By: Tim_M : November 20th, 2017-14:36
The twin turbo V12 AMG "65s" and C7/Z06 Corvettes have a functionally similar reduced-power limp-mode that has been reported by the few owners who try to track them. I imagine it's present in other powerful forced-induction cars. And honestly, I'm sure it...

Those acceleration records are

 By: crown comfort : November 20th, 2017-10:19
just for the paper. In practice they are completely useless. My friend, always on the bleeding edge of technology, bought a Model S earlier this year and instead of showing me the comfort and practicality of the car, he had nothing better to do than putti...

You forgot the biggest difference: emission

 By: Poky : November 20th, 2017-14:24
That is the whole point of it all; creating a technology that does not pump CO2, Sulphur and Nitrous oxide into the planet's atmosphere. Something for the future of our planet and children. Of course this does not mean that manufacturing of a Tesla is goi...

Good point. It's a step in the right direction.

 By: Tim_M : November 20th, 2017-14:42
I refuse to believe that the future of the car is nothing but gloom, doom, and absolutist solutions. The electric sports car is a big step forward, and I believe that a $50,000 roadster can't be too far beyond the horizon whether it comes from Tesla or a ...

If you make sure that your electricity is not generated

In gas or coal power plants.

I've seen a few studies on this

 By: Tim_M : November 21st, 2017-07:22
The conclusion seems to be that even with petrochemicals and coal, it's easier to control emissions at an industrial power plant than across many small variable-load automotive engines. And for any given unit of fuel burned, more of it can be converted to...

At that price point

 By: patrickmaniac : November 20th, 2017-15:05
Worth a punt. Now with regards to the real delivery date..... Cheers PAt

That remains a challenge... I bet it happens, but likely not on schedule as planned.

 By: Tim_M : November 20th, 2017-19:32
But it looks like the first-generation roadsters are a pretty good buy on Autotrader right now. They're basically Lotus Elises with more torque, a lower CG, but more absolute mass to manage. By all accounts, the go quite nicely and provide a fun alternati...

Tesla vehicles are sometimes very poorly assembled in the eyes of industry professionals and the most discerning clients...

 By: patrick_y : November 20th, 2017-20:48
I have to be careful in how I say this. I want the electric car to do well. I want the environment to be better. I agree that pollution is causing global warming. But... I've seen Tesla Model X vehicles where the plastic trim on the fenders were too tight...

Now try the same chart

Comparing a high end mechanical piece and a high end digital piece in terms of functionality and cost. Apple and orange.

This is about our and our children’s future.

Watches do no harm (well....only to your solvability)

Good point, well taken

 By: Tim_M : November 21st, 2017-18:25
While not financially the most sustainable ;-) ... this is a pretty low-impact hobby from a resource standpoint. Best, Tim

Nice but ...

 By: bimbeano : November 23rd, 2017-04:30
.. when are they going to mass-produce (=500,000 cars/year) a car with following specs: ? Max weight: 1200 kilo Max weight battery 200 kilo 5 people Range: 600+ KM (real range that is). Charging time: 15 minutes. Max power output: 150 hp ... why on Earth ...

Humanity has to start somewhere. Musk is doing that. The man should get a Nobel price.

 By: Arie - Mr Orange : November 23rd, 2017-05:56
Fossil fuel is literally a dead end. We have known this for decades and did nothing. We have to change the way we live (consume) fast and start being sustainable. The knowledge is there. The only thing that has to change is the mindset of the people. Ever...

Sustainability ?

 By: bimbeano : November 23rd, 2017-12:23
Never heard of that .. at least, humanity has never heard of that. Why produce ("average")cars with 200 to 500 hp ? Why produce ("subsidized") electric cars with 700 hp .... and probably 1500 to 2000 hp in the near future. People WILL use that power (and ...
