Sun Valley Road Rally July 21-22, 2017

"Participants travel from all over the world to enjoy this unique experience of driving at top speed on 4 miles of public road. Spectators watch the fastest cars in the world soar at speeds over 230 mph!"

We have had this event on our summer agenda for the last 6 months.

"The weekend kicks off on Friday with the Sun Valley Cruise and Block Party when up to 200 cars take a 5-mile scenic route around Sun Valley to end up at the Festival Meadow on Sun Valley Road. Porsches, Ferraris, Bugattis, Bentleys – every car will show off its best side as the masses cast their ballots and award ‘Best in Show’."

"On Saturday, qualified drivers get ready for an experience of a lifetime as they push their cars to the limit on a 4-mile stretch of scenic countryside at our new 2017 location down GANNETT ROAD. The best part? There’s no speed limit! Spectators share the rush from the sidelines where they watch the cars flying by as they picnic and enjoy the view."

Sadly, because Mrs. C is still recovering from her tendon injury, and sitting along the road in a wheelchair doesn't sound that great to her, we won't be joining some friends who are sponsoring a driver in the speed event.

"Everyone will feel great about their involvement as the event supports The Drug Coalition; promoting healthy lives by decreasing substance use by youth through innovative programming, community education, and positive policy change."

Automotive racing fans might recognize this car, brought in by its original owner, E B F aka Edsel Bryant Ford II

There is plenty of heavy iron poised for tech inspection today:

I can see the "For Sale" advert now - only driven 4 miles ...

My buddy Jim is sponsoring this car. Yes, it's a Subaru. He says they couldn't afford a McLaren

But not just any Subaru

It seems adequately prepared to me...

What do we think this car will run? A top speed with 2 mile straight to gain momentum. Any forecasts?

Despite the hemi engine's weight , the car was a blast to drive. Note that the engine was a crate ray barton hemi engine with a displacement of 525ci and 775 horsepower, he also changed a lot of thing in his car including front and rear bigger brakes, tor...

Are the speeds top or average?

Thanks for covering this quite interesting event, Mike! Looking forward to seeing the final standings.

Cool!

 By: KMII : July 22nd, 2017-23:54
Thanks for the explanation. So it's more the length of the straight that limits the top speed for some. But very cool that events like this still exist!

Looks like a safe way to ...

Beyond the GT-40, were there other cars in this post?

After the GT, my eyes kinda watered up and everything else was a blur. I'm sure however the rest were fine automobiles.
