Question about the hands

Nov 10, 2006,02:14 AM

When I examine my 5960 and look at the tips of the chrono second hand and the minute hand when both are set to 1200, I notice what appears to be considerable distance between the hands. On the watches that had the problem, was this distance too small? In other words, did some watches have less distance between the hands which contributed to the problem or is the distance irrelevant?

Thanks.

Hi Suitbert, That was a very interesting posting indeed It'd be interesting to see the output of the highspeed camera. I guess this 'hand resonance' knowledge will form future 'tests' for prototypes so that the problem doesn't repeat itself on future refe...

...as always..'great work' !!...thank you for your explanation and passing that info to us. The 'fix' seems to be rather simple...so hopefully 'the hands' should be no longer a reason for slower delivery of this popular reference....and the production and...

It is such fascinating details, we watch-nerds are nourished by. Incredible phenomenon, when one thinks of how small and light such a hand really is. But while we are at it, I wonder why the down-side profile has become 3-stepped instead of "just" conic, ...

Thanks for the wonderful research and write up to keep us informed of the issue. The next question would be whether I should have my original second hand changed to the new one. Is there a recommendation from PP?? So far, i do not seem to have any problem...

Thanks, Lee, for the kind words...

5960 Problem

 By: David : November 6th, 2006-07:07
Thanks Suitbert for your very informative post! I own a 5960 which I have worn many times. While I don't run the chrono function continuously, I have used the chrono function at least 25 times with no problem. I wonder what percentage of the owners of the...

I also own a 5960. How difficult is it to see the problem? Does it require a magnifying loop or are the changes readily visible? Again, thanks for the greatly informative post!

No reason to be concerned....

Time and time again you have put us out of misery. Been reading a lot about the problem and still waiting for the delivery of both 5960 and 5980 so this should put my mind at rest.

Drew some flak for my original comments but at least I know the 5960 will come back rectified fully. Thanks for the detail explanation which allow us to bear parting with our 5960 better.

...it's not the key point as I understand it. In the very few cases which could be observed, obviously the vertical movement/vibration of the seconds hand contributed to the problem. The combination of resonance in the chrono runner arbor and the hand may...
