GRAND COMPLICATIONS – nothing less than 16 new references

Apr 14, 2014,14:22 PM

Ref. 5951P-012 and -013

(012 on the left - white lacquered; 013 on the right - black lacquered)

Those two are the successors of the Ref. 5951P-001, which is discontinued now.

There was no chance to see them in the metal, this time. From what I can say so far, I like them both a lot – for different reasons. The 012 version is more classical and will never be out of fashion – still it is very beautiful. A black dial for such a classical grand complication is maybe controversial for some, but it fits much better to my style.

Ref. 5140R-011 and 5140P-013

(R-011 on the left - silvery-opaline; P-013 on the right - ebony-black sunburst)

With the two new ones there are six different versions of this reference available.

Ref. 5940G-001

The Ref. 5940J was introduced in 2012 and I liked it from the beginning. Even when I am not crazy about yellow gold this one worked for me very well – mainly because of the cream-colored dial. This year we get a white metal version on top, in white gold to be correct. It shows the same attention to details, but with some changes on the dial.

(J)

(G)

Have you already seen the differences? One is the velvety silvery-white dial and the other one are the new/old style minute indexes.

Close-ups :

On the wrist :

Conclusion :

If I would be in the market for a classical perpetual calendar, this would be my reference. The different shape of the case is refreshing and classical at the same time. On my wrist it feels and looks just perfect. Which version – J or G? That would be a tough decision for me.

Ref. 5496P-014

The reference is not new, but now it comes in addition with a honey brown dial.

Ref. 5270G-013 and -014

About those two watches we have already discussed a lot, in autumn 2013. Yes, they belong to the Collection 2014 – even when they have been introduced before.

If you would like to know more about both, please use our search function and you will find several posts. If you like to see more live pictures of the blue dial version – please click here: patek.watchprosite.com =

Ref. 5271P-001

This watch is quite interesting, because it ticks some boxes in my head – good ones and difficult ones.

The black lacquered dial, with applied gold hour markers and 1 baguette diamond at 12 o’clock is to die for. The bezel and lugs set with 58 baguette diamonds; well this is the difficult part for me and I didn´t even speak about the clasp.

The movement is known and still beautiful smile

On the wrist :

Conclusion :

I really appreciated it on my wrist, but (personally) would never wear it in daylight and probably only for special occasions.

Ref. 5950/1A-001, -010 and -011

The Ref. 5950 in general is known and even the steel case is not new, in this case. But now it comes with a bracelet and two more options for the dial.

In case you (really) don´t know the watch or my passion for it smile , please click here:

patek.watchprosite.com

Also you can find quite a few pictures like this here at PuristSPro, which I posted from time to time.

Back to the “novelties”. I am not absolutely sure what to think about right now. Have seen them only through the window and this is not enough to judge. Just some brief thoughts: a steel bracelet is convenient for some, the style of the bracelet is kind of “old school” and the new colors add some spice without being flashy …

So far I am still more in love with the “brown strap version”.

Will have to come back to the watches, once I managed to handle them.

Ref. 5204P-011

Just saw it like this and on the official picture, unfortunately.

From what I can say now, I prefer the latest one – for several reasons.

The black dial makes the watch look smaller; the “smallish” moon phase indication disturbs me less, my already known weakness for black dials in general smile

Ref. 5078R-001

Once more “window shopping” only, but still then I adore it. It went straight in to my heart and I could also feel it in my stomach, to be honest.

If this is not THE classical Patek Philippe, what else?

Hard to believe it was not available like this before, especially when thinking about the known warm sound of red gold cases.

Still there is nothing more to share, for now. Sorry, I would have loved to listen to it … and to share some more impressions!

Ref. 5304R-001

This one is the successor of the Ref. 5104 which we had the pleasure to see here at PuristSPro just recently – several times.

All I can say for now, there have been some changes on the bridges and the slider for the minute repeater is in WG (not in PT like some people thought).

For comparison I thought it could be nice to look (at least) to this collage – old vs new:

In general I am a “white metal” guy, but in this case I think the RG works very well with those black and grey details.

Has to be seen closer than this …

Ref. 5217P-001

This is a serious grand complication (chime with two gongs, tourbillon, retrograde perpetual calendar …) with additional spice.

Case diameter:   39.5 mm

Movement:         Caliber RTO 27 PS QR

It is a nice watch but I much prefer the black dial version. Fx

Black dials, I have a weakness for them. But when it comes to readabililty

 By: small-luxury-world : April 13th, 2014-23:23
... quite a few people blame them, if we talk about classical/elegant watches. Still it is nice to have options, isn´t it? Thanks, FX! Oliver

The new Nautilus Travel Time Chronograph Ref. 5990/1A combines two highly popular complications and features additional functions for enhanced everyday convenience. What looks like a simple addition of a new “smaller” complication, was in fact quite chall...

Thanks Oliver for the presentation of this new Nautilus

I really have to see it in the metal. Your shots clearly display the complexity of the case. I'm less convinced by the dial but maybe I will change my mind when I will see it. Fx

Ref. 5960/1A When the Ref. 5960 was launched in 2006, the Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Chronograph in platinum was the manufacture's first self-winding chronograph. It manifested a new and unique style with its prominent monocounter and three large cale...

 By: foversta : April 13th, 2014-14:28
Honestly, I don't understand the watch. Let me explain: it is obviously a nice watch and I appreciate its dial. But Patek presents its as a kind of "more casual" version of the 5960 explaining to some customers that it could be an all-around watch. But wi...

For a fantastic report and stunning photos. There are some nice new pieces, but I am quite sad to see the 5960P out of production. I understand this is the natural evolution with Patek, but still disappointed. Kind regards,

The way you describe how difficult it is to polish ss bracelets (and cases too), one realy wonders about the use of white gold. Is it possible that the manufacturers are deliberately using easy to process wg as opposed to ss to cut down manufacting and se...

"the use of white gold ... win-win-win .." it is interesting to get your point of view. No matter what the brands are thinking or want at the end it needs customers to put money on it. Some ask for gold (or any other precious metals) because it makes the ...

I do hope that the ss version is much more affordable than the ex Pt.

 By: amanico : April 13th, 2014-21:53
I have very mixed feelings with the new 5960... First I hope that the bracelet doesn't allow Patek to sell it at the price of the Pt. Then, I really hope you can buy it without this bracelet, which doesn't match with the spirit of the Watch. I would rathe...

I have coveted the first 5960p with grey dial ever since

 By: Hulk : April 23rd, 2014-03:02
It came out. But your photos confirm my first initial thoughts, I don't like it. The dial just doesn't work for me, with the different colours and the bracelet makes it look worse. Having read Nicholas comments I could be swayed. I think he is right, a le...

 By: cisco : April 14th, 2014-02:18
I find the new versions of the 5950 very nice, the 5940G appealing and the 5204P stunning. But as said previously, there are some novelties that I do not see as appealing and looking like mistakes to me. As usual with Patek time will tell :)

agree

I'd like to run to my AD to see the 5960 on wrist and if I'm lucky and win the lottery, 5204 will be it. Finally, the 5078R is so gorgeous and I'm happy to make it my exit piece. Joseph
